Indigent Defense Panel (IDP)
On July 1, 2016, El Dorado Law, a professional law corporation, took over the Administration of the El Dorado County Indigent Defense Panel. The office has a duty to the indigent citizens of El Dorado County to appoint them an attorney to assist in their defense against pending allegations. Citizens are appointed an IDP attorney when the Public Defender’s Office declares that they have a conflict on a case. At this time the IDP has ten panel attorneys. There are eight tier one attorneys who handle felonies, five in the Placerville Area and two in South Lake Tahoe. Additionally there are two tier two attorneys who handle misdemeanor cases in Placerville. If a conflict has been declared on your case and/or you have been referred to the Indigent Defense Panel an attorney will be appointed to you within 48 hours. That attorney will be at your next court hearing to accept the appointment and represent you. Should you like to reach out to your attorney in between the time in which the conflict is declared and your next hearing, you can call (530) 626-6208 48 business hours after the Public Defender has declared a conflict and leave a message. Your contact information will then be forwarded to your appointed attorney.
